Are you 16 years old or older and interested in learning how to pack mules and horses in the mountains? Then we have just the thing for you!

The school will start out at the resort where you will learn the basics to prepare and go on an overnight pack trip. We will teach you everything you will need to know to confidently and safely take a wilderness pack trip!

You will start by learning the safety issues and ways to prevent them. From there you will learn how to pack mules and horses. This includes proper feeding, catching, grooming, and saddling of your horse and the pack animals. You will also be learning basic horse first aid and how to care for stock in the case of an emergency.

To further prepare you for the overnight pack trip, you will learn how to plan and organize a successful pack trip, cook in the wilderness and use a Dutch Oven Additionally we will teach you backcountry ethics and the Leave No Trace Principles.

But let’s not forget the fun part! You will also get to ride everyday and practice leading a string of pack mules! This school is for people who are seriously interested in becoming a competent packer. At the end of the school, you will receive a Certificate of Completion and maybe even a job offer!
